The Counter Cafe would never be found if it wasn't for it's growing reputation as one of the best cafe's in all of East London. It's unconventional position (well away from any main artery, or centre) requires the loyalty of it's customers and their positive opinions to spread the word.
If you want a nice foamy coffees, all day brunch, freshly made sandwiches prepared with only the freshest quality foods, or a treat like Jess's World Famous chocolate brownies, then this is the place for you.

"Possibly the best kept secret in London, mostly due to its location. Way off the charts of most coffee people/food bloggers.
Don’t miss: The Big Breakfast (especially the homemade relish), the vintage cinema seating, a great mural, great coffee, finding an oasis in the oddest of places. I love how much the owners did without spending on pointless things. Love just hanging out here."

"This was a random find, and I mean random. Have a day out in Hackney Wick, look at grafitti and art galleries, wander over a canal and come across one of the better cafes I have been to in a while. A perfect flat white, a brownie from heaven and a table outside in the sun. Apparently the food is great as well, I will be going."
"Looks like somebody with a keen eye for interior design has taken-over a condemned building and tricked it out with an assortment of eclectic cinema furniture and big wooden tables for spreading your broadsheet and made a good job of embellishing the raw-brick hole left when they knocked through a wall to make an extra room. Pretty good coffee and the food's good too. Run by a nice bunch of Kiwis who let you drink beer on the nice outdoor seating if you're nice and it's sunny outside."
